New York-based investment firm Greenbriar has launched a $1bn private equity fund.

The transport focused buyout house closed its last fund in 2014, hitting $1.1bn.

In a filing with the SEC, the firm’s latest vehicle, named Greenbriar Equity Fund IV, is hoping to raise up to $1bn.

It is unclear what the firm’s strategy is, but the firm typically targets market leading companies in the global transportation industry, investing between $75m and $150m in each transaction.

Greenbriar pursues a number of transaction structures, including leveraged buyouts, recapitalisations, growth capital investments and privatisations.

It currently boasts a portfolio of 26 companies all in the transportation industry and other related sectors.

Two months ago, AltAssets reported that Greenbriar had exited logistics company Transplace to mark its third supply chain deal of the year.

Earlier this year, it backed aerospace components business Whitcraft to add to its transport focused portfolio.
